Basic definitions and technical principles
Rectifier transformers, a key component in power electronics systems, are specialized transformers designed specifically for rectifiers. Their operating principle follows the law of electromagnetic induction. They connect to the AC grid (typically 10kV or 35kV) through the primary winding (primary side), coupling the input power-frequency AC power to the secondary winding (secondary side) via the core's magnetic circuit. The multiphase AC output from the secondary side is converted to DC power (typically with an output voltage ranging from hundreds to thousands of volts) by a thyristor/diode rectifier bridge, providing a stable power supply for DC loads such as industrial electrolysis and traction power supplies. A key feature that distinguishes this device from conventional power transformers is its specialized winding design and harmonic mitigation structure, designed to meet the stringent phase balance and harmonic suppression requirements of rectifier systems.
